Studio Gaxa crafted a Boutique Hampton-style bedroom, bringing beach chic and Hamptons charm, with a Scandi minimalism touch, to an older-style Maroubra semi-detached cottage. Moving closer to their expanding family in Sydney, the homeowners sought to rejuvenate the private spaces of their new dwelling.
The transformation saw the sitting room, measuring 4 metres by 3.4 metres, converted into the main bedroom, complete with “space-saver” wardrobes and a centrally placed bed. The sunroom, the smallest but brightest room, became a serene home office with views of a sun-drenched courtyard.
The homeowners desired a peaceful retreat within their often bustling household, where they could relax and indulge in their hobbies. They aimed to create a space that reflected their love for entertaining and the arts, providing a serene backdrop for work and leisure.
Managed under a careful budget, Studio Gaxa’s project director navigated financial constraints with strategic planning. “The couple had a fairly strict budget of $5,000, which would have been realistic without custom wardrobes,” the project director noted. To address this, the project was divided into two phases: the first encompassing all except the wardrobes within the initial budget, while the second phase focused on adding bespoke wardrobes, bringing the total cost to $11,000.
This thoughtful renovation by Studio Gaxa not only fulfilled the homeowners’ vision for a tranquil and stylish private space but also demonstrated how strategic design can achieve elegance and functionality on a budget.
