Mai Terrace, set in the heritage-rich district of Zetland, NSW, stands as a testament to the art of transformation, blending the charm of its historical surroundings with the demands of contemporary living. Driven by the desire to modernise while preserving the essence of its setting, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home has been meticulously revitalised, featuring comprehensive internal redesign and remedial works under the guidance of our sister company, GAXA. The project embodies a seamless union of tradition and modernity, showcasing what can be achieved when historical charm is infused with today’s lifestyle needs

The client sought to transform their home into a tranquil retreat that radiates minimalist elegance. Their vision was to create an interior that feels both expansive and serene, steering away from a stark, clinical look towards a warmer, more inviting space.

Under the guidance of Studio Gaxa’s project director, the project was meticulously planned and executed. Key to achieving the desired outcome was the thoughtful selection of materials and colours that reflect natural light and enhance the sense of space. Emphasizing texture and tonal variation, alongside retaining and enhancing original features of the home, such as the floors, played a crucial role in realising the client’s vision.

The renovation encompassed a full interior makeover, aiming to imbue the home with a sense of minimalist calm, light, and airiness. The use of light oak timber finishes and a blend of warm whites, like milk and latte tones, alongside cool whites, established a harmonious monochrome palette. Textured furnishings and decorative pieces, including a standout plaster wall, stone tops, and sheer curtains, were meticulously selected to ensure the space felt warm and welcoming. A distinctive feature entry with Venetian plaster mimicking a stone texture and complemented by ceramic lighting, alongside the preservation and staining of the original floors, enhanced the home’s serene and minimalist ambiance. The bathrooms were rejuvenated with travertine-look tiles, adding texture and movement while harmonizing with the overall design.

The transformation of Mai Terrace into a light-filled, tranquil home exemplifies how a thoughtful redesign can elevate a living space, seamlessly blending functionality with aesthetic appeal.
