The Studio Gaxa team embarked on the Vesper project, a distinctive knock-down-rebuild effort, at a critical juncture in its design phase. Their involvement ensured seamless integration with the work of the existing Building Designer. This project, named “Vesper” – a term derived from Latin that evokes the evening’s serene essence, particularly the twilight hours and symbolising the evening star often associated with Venus – reflects the client’s essence and tonal aesthetics. Its name, playfully coined, resonates deeply with the project’s intent to capture the radiance of the evening sky, a theme that profoundly influences its design and ambiance.  

With the project receiving council approval, it is situated in a tranquil setting specially chosen to resonate with the serene essence of “Vesper.” The design, capitalising on this idyllic location, introduces open-plan living on the ground floor complemented by spacious living quarters on the first floor, all designed to optimise natural light and airflow. Such a layout not only boosts the functionality of the space but also mirrors the calmness and expansiveness of the evening sky, a fundamental inspiration behind Vesper.

In bringing Vesper to life, Studio Gaxa and the Building Designer collaborated closely to develop a layout that encapsulates open-plan living, accentuating natural light and ventilation. Their joint effort during the mid-design phase was crucial in keeping the project aligned with its original vision, blending the client’s needs with both practicality and aesthetic elegance.

This meticulous planning and design effort brought Vesper to the council approval milestone, a significant step forward towards realisation. The dynamic process of architectural development, captured during this mid-design phase, underscores the project’s evolving nature, with ongoing adjustments made to secure the optimal outcome. Through strategic design choices and careful planning, Vesper is on track to not only fulfil the functional demands of its future residents but also embody the lyrical essence of its namesake, creating an inviting space that reflects the enchanting beauty of the twilight sky.
